Most Instagrammable Places in Amman for Photos
1. Jebel Al-Qala / Amman Citadel / Hercules Temple
This is my favorite spot to start for great Instagram shots in Amman. Jebel Al-Qala is what tourists and the tourism board call the Citadel. There are massive remains of Hercules temple, the renovated Umayyad Palace and 360 degree views of the Amman hills from this spot
Hours: Winter 9am-5pm Summer 9am-7pm Ramadan 9:30am-5:30pm Friday’s and Holidays 9am-4pm
To Get to Jebel Al-Qala / Amman Citadel: You can get to the Amman Citadel by car or by taxi (or by walking up the hill). When you get in the taxi ask for Jebel Al-Qala if your driver does not recognize the word “citadel” (yes it happens).
Get some shots of the remains of Hercules Temple. There are so many angles and there are plenty of moments with no one on the site.
This is one of the most popular places for photoshoots in Amman. If you want to book a photographer (or want to know why you chould consider it), check out this post on booking a local photographer in Amman! If you are already convinced, check here for availability!

Overwhelmed with Planning a trip to Jordan?
Want to skip all of the planning and access my detailed Jordan Itinerary and Guide? I have been to Jordan several times and after being asked again and again for suggestions, not only did I build this website but I created an interactive PDF guide to help you plan the best trip to Jordan! It includes an interactive map, multiple itineraries for up to 10 days and as little as three days and plenty of practical information about renting a car and driving in Jordan. Get the guide by clicking the button below.

2. Jebel Al-Qala / Umayyad Palace Ceiling
Built during the first half of the 8th century, most of the palace was ruined but has been beautifully restored, including the wooden roof. The light from either side makes for perfect lighting and one of the best indoor photo spots in Jordan. Nearby, the remains of the Byzantine Church provide plenty of photo ops.
Use a tripod as you need a slower exposure (or to crank the ISO) to properly expose. You also need a pretty wide angle lens as there is not a ton of room inside the building.

3. Amman Hills
Atop Jebel Al-Qala (or any of the other hills in the city you can get a great backdrop for your urban images! With the whitewashed limestone building code, the background dullness makes for great portraits!
4. Amman Steps
Some of the steps in Amman are painted with beautiful colors. Others, like the one below, have umbrellas offering bright colors. While wandering downtown Amman, or in one of the neighborhoods, you are sure to find many interesting staircases.

Travel Insurance for Jordan
There are a few other things to think about when it comes to travel. The first thing is travel insurance. Whether it is an emergency room visit for something as simple as strep throat, or an emergency appendix surgery, or an unfortunate moped incident things do go wrong when people travel everyday.
I highly suggest travel insurance and a good policy. I personally never travel without it, and I even checked into my policy about care for my children if I am ever in an accident or hospitalized. There are just too many things to think about.
