Jordan in December is one of the coldest months of the year. Despite its location in the center of the Middle East, winter coats and clothes for winter weather are essential. The rainy season has arrived and when the temperature drops, snow can be found in high-elevation areas.

Jordan experiences a diverse climate, with variations in weather depending on the region. In December, Jordan generally has a cool to cold winter climate, with daytime temperatures ranging from around 10 to 15 degrees Celsius (50 to 59 degrees Fahrenheit) in many areas. However, temperatures can drop significantly at night, often falling below freezing, especially in the desert regions.
Amman, the capital city, is situated at over 1000 metres above sea level, and temperatures in December can range from 6 to 12 degrees Celsius (43 to 54 degrees Fahrenheit) during the day, with colder nights. Petra and Wadi Rum, popular tourist destinations, can experience similar daytime temperatures but may be colder at night.
Make sure you pack waterproof clothing. Jordan sees around 9 days of precipitation in December. Typically it is rain but it can possibly be snow in higher elevations.

December 25th – Christmas is an official public holiday and Christians and Muslims alike get in the Christmas spirit. Malls and main boulevards are adorned with Christmas decorations. The entire month of December sees many festive events in Amman and beyond.
Crowds and Costs
December is considered the low season in Jordan. However, you will see lots of visitors over typical Christmas school breaks. But even with the holiday visitors, it is still one of the low months for tourists. This can save money on accommodations and car rentals.

Visit Wadi Rum – The desert landscape of Wadi Rum is otherworldly at any time of the year. Sometimes it can even get a dusting of snow! Make sure to bring layers as the desert gets extremely cold in the winter months.
